10 Beauty Tips for Your Prom Day

Me at Prom in 2011
Hey Beauty Bees,

It is that time of year when high school girls are searching for their prom dresses and deciding on what hair style they want to have. I remember back when it was my senior prom and how excited I was to get all dolled up for the day and feel like a princess. I had such a great time spending the day with Chris and all of my friends. With all those cameras flashing, I wanted to make sure my makeup looked perfect from when I first applied it all the way through till the last dance.

Thinking back to my own prom, there are tips that I followed and some that I wish I had known back then. These are my top 10 beauty tips that will help you have the perfect day and enjoy everything there is to enjoy at your prom.

1. Avoid waxing your brows the day of prom if your skin is prone to redness and irritation. Giving at least 24 hours ensures your skin has enough time to calm down.

2. Wear a button-up shirt to your hair/makeup appointments so that you do not mess up your look when you go to change.

3. Put in your bobby pins with the rough side down so they do not slip out of your up-do. For the best possible up-do, using day-old hair will allow your natural oils to help mold hair into place.

4. Invest in key contouring products and brushes to highlight your cheekbones while using a mattifying powder to keep your face from being shiny. This will make your pictures come out amazing. Also be weary of how much glitter or sparkles you use as it can pick up a lot of light causing your skin to look very shiny like a disco ball.

5. If you want a nail look that really pops, pick a shade that compliments your dress but does not match it.

6. Use liquid eyeliner as opposed to a pencil to lessen the chance of smudging throughout the day. (I wish my makeup artist would have done this since my liner became very smudged)

7. Use a spray deodorant that applies dry and clear to avoid getting marks on your dress, especially if you are wearing a dark color like black or navy.

8. Remember these key products to keep your makeup on and perfect all day and night - Primers, Powders and Setting Spray.

9. Spray small amounts of perfume at key pulse points such as wrists, inside your elbows, the nape of your neck and even in the crease behind your knees. With the high pace of prom day, your body temperature tends to go up causing your perfume to diffuse and helping you stay smelling lovely throughout the day.

10. Pack a good mini prom emergency kit in your clutch. Since you are most likely to be using a small bag, here is a prioritized list of items you should have:

  • Bobby Pins- Incase pieces of your updo fall out
  • Travel Size Lip Gloss- To touch up your lips for pictures
  • Saftey Pins- Incase of rips or tears
  • Mint/Gum- To keep your breathe smelling good after dinner
  • Oil Blotting Sheets- Incase your skin gets shiny
  • Bandaids- Perfect incase your shoes give you blisters

Prom is a day to make memories and have fun...However every memory is remembered by the many pictures taken so don't forget to look your best. These 10 tips should help you have a stress free day and look beautiful.
